Residential Recycling
Frederick County Government provides biweekly recycling collection for residents of single family households.  For more information on residential recycling, including what can and cannot be recycled, how to obtain a cart, and what to do in case of missed pickups, please visit Frederick County Recycling.

The County does not provide recycling service or trash collection for businesses - which includes multi-family housing units.  These entities may contract for individual recycling service and can receive assistance from the County in doing so.  For more information on business recycling opportunities, please visit Frederick County Business Recycling.

General Guidelines for Recycling:
Carts need to be placed curbside by 6:00am on the designated collection day.  There is no recycling collection on the following holidays: New Years Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.  If your collection day falls on one of these holidays, or if your recycling pickup is canceled due to inclement weather, your collection will shift one day later than usual.  Please listen to your local radio station or call the recycling office for weather related cancelations.  Updates and helpful recycling information are also regularly posted online at the Office of Recycling's Facebook page.

A blue recycling bin or cart is required for service.  Please call 301-600-2960 to request a recycling container.  Three sizes of carts are available.  Materials are not accepted in plastic bags.

Customer Service
Local residents can find everything they need to know about recycling - as well as helpful tools - available on the County's Website.  You can see, print or sync your recycling schedule to a digital calendar.  You can find out what is and is not recyclable.  And by clicking on the "Collection Reminder" link, you can even set customized reminders for your street's biweekly recycling day.

Use the County's "Stay Informed" link to sign up for emergency alerts and quickly learn of unexpected changes to recycling collection service (such as for inclement weather or road closures) or to be notified of their special events, like Household Hazardous Waste drop-off days.

The County's notification services use email, phone call, text, Tweet or mobile updates, whichever is preferred.  And all of these tools are also available as a free mobile app, which can be downloaded from the County Website.

If you still have questions, please call the County Office at 301-600-2960.
