Police Chaplains

Left to Right- Reverands Graham, Steinke, Betzner and Manthey

Two thousand four marked the ninth year of the Frederick Police Volunteer Chaplain Corps. The Chaplains remain very busy with Departmental functions, special events and being on-call for Patrol. During 2004, the Chaplains assisted members of the Agency as well as family members with the death of an officer. Throughout this time the Chaplains were made available for notifications and grief counseling.

During the past year, the Chaplains participated in many activities while performing their duties including serving as Departmental representatives at several different ceremonies. Chaplains were available on an on-call basis- 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During 2004, Chaplains were called to respond to assist Patrol with death notifications, barricade situations and several other events where they were able to assist members of the public when the Department lacked the resources to do so. The Chaplains, although supported by the Police Department, remain a self-sufficient unit, scheduling their own quarterly meetings as well as a rotating on-call list. The Chaplain Corps is an essential part of the Frederick Police Department family.
