Madam Mayor and Board of Aldermen:
I
am writing you on behalf of the Airport Commission. Our Commission functions in an advisory capacity to the City on
matters having to do with the airport.
The development of the Airport Overlay District is a task within the
Airport Master Plan, and is eventually to be included in the Land Management
Code. Over the past several months we
have been kept apprised of the drafting of the Airport Overlay Zoning District.
On
March 11, 2005, the Commission was invited to a fact-finding, informational
meeting to hear in detail what was being proposed in the document. At that time, we made comments and discussed
the text and associated maps in their entirety in preparation for further
review at our regularly scheduled meeting.
The Airport Commission met on March 24, 2005, at their regularly scheduled
meeting, to hear among many items the Airport Overlay Zone. Further comments and observations were made
at that time, City Planning Staff made the appropriate changes and a full
endorsement by the Commission was made in a unanimous vote.
We
believe that the intent of this Ordinance to assist in the betterment of the
health, safety and welfare of all Frederick Citizens was accomplished. And, as your advisory arm representing the
airport, we believe it is in the best interest of the airport and its user as
well.
