FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 2, 2008
16th CITIZEN POLICE ACADEMY
The Frederick Police Department is pleased to announce it will be conducting the 16th Citizen Police Academy (CPA) starting in August 2008.
The CPA is a 12-week program designed to give interested citizens an overview of the many functions of their police department. Classes meet every Wednesday Evening from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. starting August 27 and running thru November 12, 2008. There will be a final practical exercise / graduation day on Saturday November 15, 2008.
Participants receive instruction in the many aspects of modern law enforcement such as uniformed patrol, criminal investigations, undercover operations, and tactical operations. There are numerous interactive and hands-on segments such as crime scene preservation and evidence collection, as well as a defensive tactics demonstration. On the final practical exercise day, participants will test the skills and knowledge they have gained over the past 12-weeks by responding to scenario-based situations as the police.
Upon completion of the program, participants will not be sworn police officers, nor be expected to perform any law enforcement functions; they will, however, have a greater understanding of what the Frederick Police Department does and how we can work together to make Frederick and even better community for everyone.
The CPA is open to any resident of the City of Frederick, or person with business interest in the city, who is 18-years or older, and has no serious criminal history.
For an enrollment form or for more information, please contact Cpl. Matt Evans at 301-600-1264 or at jevans@fredco-md.net.
