POLICE ACTIVITIES LEAGUE ANNOUNCES GAL PALS GRADUATION

The Frederick Police Department’s Police Activities League is pleased to announce the that there will be a graduation ceremony and reception to close out the 1st year of the GAL PALS program.

The ceremony and reception will be held on Wednesday June 11th from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Hope VI Community Center located at 1150 Orchard Terrace, Frederick MD 21703.

The GAL PALS program consisted of 30 weekly mentoring sessions beginning in September of 2007 and finished with it’s last session on June 4th. These sessions were conducted on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00 pm at Hillcrest Elementary School. Each week consisted of personal sharing from guest mentors and role models from the community; fun exercises; fun Friday field trips; individual journal keeping; weekly rewards and affirmations of success.

The GAL PALS program plans to return next Fall with sessions to be held at the Hope VI Community Center on the 2nd & 4th Wednesdays of each month from 6:00-8:00 pm.

The Police Activities League of Frederick (PAL) began in August of 1999, and is a recreation-oriented juvenile crime prevention program that relies heavily upon athletics and recreational activities to create and cement the bond between police officers and the kids on the street. During the school year the PAL program is offered in the evenings at the PAL Center in the Sagner Community and at Hillcrest Elementary School. PAL offers kids a safe nurturing place to learn and interact with the police officers all while having a good time.

To receive more information on this program please contact: Michele Bowman at (301) 600-2091 or mbowman@fredco-md.net.
