National Capital Area Council, Learning for Life Annual Explorer Banquet
OFC Jason Essel of the Frederick Police Department was honored recently with an Outstanding Achievement Award for his work with the Frederick Police Explorer Post #714. The National Capital Area Learning for Life Council’s annual Explorer Banquet was held on January 19, 2008 at Camp Snyder in Haymarket, VA. OFC Essel was recognized for his service as Treasurer of the Potomac Boundary Advisor’s Association and for his efforts coordinating the Potomac Boundaries Region Leadership Academy, which was held at Mt. Saint Mary’s University in August 2007. OFC Essel is currently assigned as a Community Outreach officer who spends the majority of his time working with youth in this program and also in the Frederick County Public Schools that serve the city. He has been involved with the Exploring program for the past 3 years.
OFC Essel, OFC Chris Herman and OFC Samantha Crane advise and direct the Frederick Police Department’s Explorer program and it’s Post #714. The Frederick Explorer Post is comprised of both males and females from the ages of 14-20, with a career interest in law enforcement. The program offers young men and women the opportunity to participate in law enforcement related training and activities. It also provides them the chance to work alongside sworn officers during many special events and participate in regional and national competitions.
