Police Officer Career Opportunities

The Frederick Police Department offers a variety of opportunities to customize your law enforcement experience. You can take control of your career development by pursuing our many specialized areas within the agency.

The Patrol Division is the foundation of the department. It's where the rubber meets the road. Patrol officers learn every facet of police work, but foremost they are problem solvers, taking pride in their close relationship with the community.

The Special Operations Division contains a number of tactical units. We offer an award winning K-9 program, an undercover Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), and a uniformed Directed Patrol Unit (DPU). We also have a Special Response Team (SRT) for critical incidents.

Our Community Services Division offers the chance to work with Frederick's youth through such programs as the Police Activities League and the Police Explorers. Hands-0n community involvement is the focus of this Division, whether it's working in our schools or on the Hotspots detail.

The Criminal Investigation Division investigates all felonies, including homicides and robberies. By working a diverse caseload, our detectives learn every facet of criminal investigation.
