Crime
Analysis
"Crime
analysis impacts all areas and operations of a police
department by refining and distributing useful information.
Departments have used crime analysis effectively to
improve their operations and administration; realign
districts and deploy personnel, and develop investigative
leads."
The
office of crime analysis primarily studies 'Part One'
offenses reported to the police department throughout
Frederick city. Once refined, and issued as a departmental
intelligence report, this information can be essential
to both immediate departmental operations or planning
for future agency needs.
Crime
analysis produces and refines statistical trends as
well as studies current and potential future criminal
activities.
An
aspect of analysis concerns crime event mapping. By
using Geographical Information Science (GIS) technology,
the analyst locates crime events throughout the city
and analyzes them via varied GIS spatial techniques.
The
Frederick Police Department has enjoyed numerous and
sustained successes in crime event prediction through
the use of GIS technology and other crime analysis techniques.
Implemented prediction analysis results in directed
deployment, and frequently either the apprehension of
suspects and/or cessation of that criminal pattern of
events.
