Services Provided

  • CIP Project Management / Consultant Coordination. Working with consultants performing design projects on behalf of the City.
  • Development Review. Private development drawings are reviewed to ensure compliance with applicable codes such as Stormwater Management, Floodplain Management, Sediment and Erosion Control and City design criteria.
  • Infrastructure (water, sanitary, drainage) planning. In the Fiscal Year 2004, the Department will undertake the re-development of the water and sanitary master plans. The stormwater and the pavement master plans are scheduled to commence in Fiscal Year 2005.
  • Traffic: Administers and reviews traffic studies prepared by consultants and evaluates requests for traffic signals/signage. Citizens requesting changes to traffic signals and signage are required to obtain a Traffic Engineering Request formwhich is available in the department.
  • Mapping/Drafting: Preparation of maps, site plans and exhibits and maintenance of final improvement plans, site plans, plats of subdivision and maps of City streets as well as maps of utility locations.
  • Surveying: Provision of surveying and mapping services to internal departments and outside agencies relative to annexation, real property interests, subdivision, utilities, watershed, boundaries, etc. Also established and maintain City-wide geodetic control network for all surveying, engineering and mapping purposes.

Records Room: The Engineering Department maintains files public infrastructure, subdivision plats, site plans and construction drawings. As-built drawings are also available in many cases.

Floodplain Determinations: The City of Frederick participates in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and the Engineering Department is a repository for NFIP floodplain information and elevation certificates. The Engineering Department makes floodplain determinations based on NFIP and other floodplain information before issuing permits. Maps and copies of documents are available for a fee.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has recently granted a Letter of Map Revision for the Carroll Creek Flood Control Project (Case Number 02-03-117P) which removes many properties from the regulatory floodplain.
