Airport Development

The City of Frederick has demonstrated its support of the Airport by working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) officials to comply with the latest FAA design standards. This includes the closing of roads, purchase of property and removal of obstructions in the Runway Protection Zone (RPZ) and Object Free Area (OFA).

Today, the Frederick Municipal Airport is considered one of the finest general aviation airports in the Eastern United States. Complete with an ILS, the Airport has a 5,220 foot runway and is capable of handling modern day business jet aircraft. In addition, Frederick Municipal Airport has an east west runway that measures 3,600 feet long. Currently, Frederick Municipal Airport has over 130,000 annual aircraft operations. The annual direct and indirect revenue amount generated by the Airport to the Frederick community is over $60 million.

Airport Capabilities

The Airport’s capabilities include ILS, VOR and GPS approaches. Fixed base operators provide fueling and offer comprehensive services including aircraft sales, service and repairs and car rental. Aircraft management and storage are also available. Jet and turbo-prop charters are available to individuals or groups.

Several professional flight schools offer instruction fulfilling requirements for airline transport, certified flight instructor, commercial, instrument, multiengine and private pilot certification. Aircraft available for rent range from single-engine, two-seat trainers to multiengine.

FDK is currently implementing Phase One of a three-phase development plan. FDK offers opportunities for FBOs, and also corporate hangars, T-hangars and tie-downs.
Airport Maintenance

Frederick Municipal Airport is maintained by personnel of the City of Frederick’s Department of Public Works, under the supervision of the Airport Manager. The Airport is inspected daily by the Airport Manager and any discrepancies are cleared immediately.
