What is the Frederick Leadership Academy?

The Frederick Leadership Academy was designed to serve as a foundation to the City’s commitment to partnering with the neighborhoods to identify problems and formulate creative neighborhood based solutions by providing “neighborhood partners” with tools to effectuate change in their community.

Course Offerings?

Courses on such topics such as Community Mediation, Effective Team-Building, City of Frederick Operations/Community Trends and much more will be lead by leading community practitioners.

Class size will be limited to 25 participants; however, many more people may register for the Frederick Leadership Academy. The small class size will foster an informal education friendly atmosphere, which lends itself well to role-playing, and question/answer sessions. Courses will be offered on a quarterly basis.

Purpose and Objectives

By providing enhanced educational opportunities, the Frederick Leadership Academy will train informed and responsible “neighborhood partners” to give the Frederick community the leadership needed to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. Specific objectives are (1) to increase understanding of local government and how it functions; (2) provide participants with the necessary skills to positively impact their community;

Who Can Attend?

The Frederick Leadership Academy is a free voluntary program available to any resident who is a member, or considering membership, of a Neighborhood Advisory Council, a neighborhood, civic or business association. Individuals may complete the entire program or take courses that peak their interest.
