LAKE LINGANORE & FISHING CREEK RESERVOIR TO RECEIVE ALGAE TREATMENT
FREDERICK, MD ----The City of Frederick Water Treatment Department will be applying 180 pounds of copper sulfate to Lake Linganore and 4 pounds to the Fishing Creek Reservoir in an effort to treat taste and odor causing algae. The work will take place on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at Lake Linganore from 8:00 AM to 12:00 noon, and at the Fishing Creek Reservoir from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. The copper sulfate crystals will be diluted with water and the concentration of dissolved copper will be sprayed along the shorelines. Both the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and the Lake Linganore Association have been contacted and made aware that this work will be taking place.

IMPACT TO AREA:
City Water Treatment crews will have a boat on the water sources and will be applying the copper sulfate solution with a spray bar/wand. There should be no impact to the public or livestock in the small dosage that will be applied.
