UNIFORM TELEPHONE EXCHANGE TO IMPROVE PUBLIC SERVICE

Frederick, MD ---- Frederick City citizens are benefiting from a new telephone exchange now in effect for Frederick County Government, City of Frederick Government and various state agencies. The uniform exchange -- 301-600-XXXX -- eliminates the variety of area codes and exchanges that have been in use for many years throughout the City’s and County’s telephone system. The last four digits of any City and County-served telephone number will not change.

Frederick County’s Interagency Information Technologies (IIT) Division successfully tested the new 600 exchange that the County, City and various state agencies are using. While the new exchange is presently in use by the County, City and various state agencies, the County has allowed a transition time of one year (September 2007) to permit the previous and new telephone numbers to be used simultaneously. After the gradual migration to the new exchange, Verizon will place a recording on all old telephone numbers directing callers to the new numbers for one year.

If you experience connectivity errors when attempting to dial City of Frederick extensions, please contact your telecommunications provider and request that 600 extensions be added to your dialing table.

All Frederick City Government directory entries in the December 2006 Verizon Frederick Telephone Directory now carry the new 600 exchange.
