MILKSHAKE KICKS OFF 2007 SUMMERFEST FAMILY THEATER SERIES

Straight from your child’s favorite program on Discovery Kids, Noggin or PBS Kids is the wildly popular kid’s rock bank, Milkshake. Boasting a collection of songs that are both infectious and relevant, the unforgettable group celebrates the joys of childhood with an unstoppable energy that is impossible to ignore. Celebrate Frederick Inc. will present the band in Frederick’s Baker Park to kick off this year’s Summerfest Family Theatre series on Saturday, July 7th at 6 p.m (please note new time!)

Milkshake is the dynamic expandable duo comprised of singer Lisa Matthews and guitarist Mikel Gehl, two former indie-rockers who decided to leave the night clubs behind after they each had children of their own. Today, they operate under the motto that ‘if you’re old enough to walk, you’re old enough to rock,’ and have gained critical acclaim for their innovative kid’s rock creation, Milkshake. This high-energy group, whose self-proclaimed mission is to create great rock music for kids, has done just that. With music videos airing on network television, and CDs lauded by CHILD Magazine, the Parents Choice Awards and others, Milkshake has leaped into the stratosphere of kid’s entertainment by winning over perhaps the toughest critics, preschoolers.

Miss Frederick, Jeanna Riscigno, will provide the opening performance on Saturday, July 7th at 6 p.m. Join her for a brief dance demonstration and workshop.

In the event of inclement weather, please tune to 99.9 WFRE, 103.1 WAFY or 106.9 WWEG for news of event cancellation. Due to the travel time and set-up by various artists and the sound production company, decisions regarding weather are made by approx. 4:00 PM. Therefore, if the weather is inclement at this time listen to the radio for confirmation of the evening’s performance being cancelled.

While the performances are FREE to the public, the Summerfest Family Theatre Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick Food Bank. Items will be collected at the Drees Homes Information Booth, located at the top of the bandshell steps in Baker Park.

This year’s theater series would not be possible without the generous support of the following corporate sponsors. The Spires Sponsors are Bechtel Group Foundation, CellularOne, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank, Spectrum Federal Credit Union and Weis Markets. The Carillon Sponsors are Comcast, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Creig Northrop Team-Long & Foster Real Estate, Inc., Roy Rogers – A Plamondon Company, The Frederick News-Post and Tuscarora Creek/Greentree Home. The Bandshell Sponsors are BB&T, Frederick Arts Council and Jean Peterson Design/The JaBITCo Group.

The Summerfest Family Theatre will continue every Saturday evening through August 25th. For a complete schedule, to volunteer, or for more information, call 301-600-CITY (2489) or visit www.CelebrateFrederick.com.
