THE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES IS PROUD TO PRESENT SOJA IN BAKER PARK ON JULY 15, 2007

The Summer Concert Series Committee of Celebrate Frederick, Inc. presents the roots reggae sound of SOJA on July 15 as part of the 2007 Summer Concert Series in Baker Park. The free concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Baker Park Bandshell, Frederick, Md.
SOJA entwines the conscious roots music with the traditional rhythms of reggae to provide a sound rich in musicianship and depth. Together for almost 10 years, SOJA has performed all across the U.S. and is currently performing on the first of two European tours this summer.
Band members include lead singer and guitarist Jacob Hempmill, lead singer and bass player Bob Jefferson, keyboardist Patrick O’Shea, Ken Brownell on percussion and Ryan Berty on drums. All About Jazz commented that SOJA “captured the soulful swaggers, pulsing rhythms and get-serious message of the genres very best.”
Arrive early with your blanket or lawn chair to enjoy a free Carillon performance in Baker Park beginning at 6:00 p.m. Food will be available from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the Summer Concert Series performance.
The evening Carillon performance will be given by the Groningen Carillon Duo: Adolph Rots and Auke de Boer.
Since 2002, Adolph Rots and Auke de Boer have been the appointed City Carillonneurs at the famous Hemony Carillon of the Martini Tower in Groningen, The Netherlands, one of the locations for the Congress 2008 for the World Carillon Federation.
Rots is currently employed as the City Carillonneur in Appingedam, Veendam, Winschoten and Groningen, The Netherlands.
De Boer is City Carillonneur and organist in Dokkum, Assen, and Groningen, The Netherlands.
While the concerts are FREE to the public, the Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank. Items will be collected at the Drees Homes Information Booth, located at the top of the bandshell steps in Baker Park.
In the event of inclement weather, please tune to 99.9 WFRE, 103.1 WAFY or 106.9 WWEG for news of event cancellation. Due to the travel time and set-up by various artists and the sound production company, decisions regarding weather are made by approximately 4:00 p.m. If the weather is inclement at this time listen to the radio for confirmation of the evening’s performance being cancelled.
