THE SUMMER CONCERT SERIES IS PROUD TO PRESENT THE
JANINE WILSON BAND IN BAKER PARK ON JULY 8, 2007
The Summer Concert Series Committee of Celebrate Frederick, Inc. presents the roots rock sounds of the Janine Wilson Band on July 8 as part of the 2007 Summer Concert Series in Baker Park. The free concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Baker Park Bandshell, Frederick, Md.
Janine Wilson’s eclectic taste has influenced her style, drawing inspiration from greats like Etta James and Elvis Costello. Her music is best described as roots rock/Americana with a bit of blues and soul for good measure.
Wilson received two Whammie awards in 2007 from the Washington Area Music Awards. One for Roots Rock Vocalist and the second for Roots Rock Album titled Save Me From Myself. Her live performances have accumulated both a loyal fan base and critical acclaim.
Arrive early with your blanket or lawn chair to enjoy a free Carillon performance in Baker Park beginning at 6:00 p.m. Food will be available from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the Summer Concert Series performance.
This evening’s Carillon performance will be given by Frederick’s own John A.Widmann partnered with the Frederick Scottish Pipes and Drums.
Widmann has been the official Frederick Carillonneur for the past 15 years. As City Carillonneur, he plays recitals on the Joseph Dill Baker Carillon every Sunday at noon. During the week, Widmann works with the youth at Tuscarora Elementary School as the Chorus and General music teacher as well as teaches private lessons in piano, voice, carillon and organ.
Widmann is joined by the Frederick Scottish Pipes and Drums, Frederick’s first and only bagpipe band since 1998. The band enjoys playing in many local and not so local festivals, ceremonies and parades, having traveled to New York City in 2006 to march in the Tunes of Glory parade with 8,000 other pipers and drummers.
While the concerts are FREE to the public, the Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank. Items will be collected at the Drees Homes Information Booth, located at the top of the bandshell steps in Baker Park.
In the event of inclement weather, please call 301-600-2844 or tune to 99.9 WFRE, 103.1 WAFY or 106.9 WWEG for news of event cancellation.
