TREE CITY USA
City of Frederick Receives Recognition for 27th Consecutive Year
Frederick, MD --- Once again, the City of Frederick has been named a Tree City USA community by the National Arbor Day Foundation to honor its commitment to its community forest. It is the twenty-seventh year the City of Frederick has received this national recognition.
The City of Frederick is also the recipient of a Tree City USA Growth Award for demonstrating progress in its community forestry program in the following areas:
Education and public relations
Continuing education for tree managers
Tree planting and maintenance
Recycling
This prestigious Growth Award recognizes environmental improvements and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities.
The Tree City USA program is sponsored by The National Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters and the USDA Forest Service. “Trees in our cities and towns help clean the air, conserve soil and water, moderate temperature, and bring nature into our daily lives. Tree City USA designation recognizes the work of elected officials, staff and citizens who plant and care for the community forest. A community, and its citizens, that recognizes these benefits and provide needed care for its trees deserves recognition and thanks,” said John Rosenow, president of The National Arbor Day Foundation.
The Maryland State Forester’s office will coordinate the presentation of the awards.
