CITY STREET TREES GET A TRIM
(800 Streets Trees on List)
Frederick, MD --- There is a good reason why the City of Frederick is awarded the Tree City USA and Tree City USA Growth Award time and again. Mr. Tom Rippeon, City Arborist, has compiled the tree list for the 2007 pruning cycle and at the present time, there are about 800 street trees on the list. This maintenance program is underway and will continue through the next year.
Maintenance pruning is when the primary objective is to maintain or improve tree health and structure and includes hazard reduction pruning. Pruning shall include removal of deadwood greater than two-inch diameter and specialty treatments such as raising branch height, street light and wire clearance and crossing or broken branches. Vertical clearance shall be a minimum of 15 feet over streets, 9 feet over sidewalks and 3 feet off buildings.
City streets and parks will be added during the year as necessary for preventive tree maintenance. For additional information, please contact Tom Rippeon, City Arborist, at 301.600.1233.
