THE WEINBERG CENTER PRESENTS

A MIDNIGHT CRY:

THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD TO FREEDOM  ________________________________________________________________________

Frederick, MD ---

The Weinberg Center Family Series is proud to welcome back the Dallas

Children’s Theater on Friday, February 23, 2007 at 10 AM and 7:30pm, as they present

“A Midnight Cry:  The Underground Railroad to Freedom”. Written by James Devitas,

“A Midnight Cry” is the true story of a young girl’s journey on the Underground

Railroad. For information and reservations, please call 301-600-2828 or visit

 www.weinberg center.org.

Rated by TIME Magazine as one of the top 5 theaters in the nation performing

for youth, Dallas Children’s Theater is a professional theater serving more than 250,000

young people and their families through its 11 main stage productions, national touring

company, and education and outreach programs. As the only major organization in Dallas

focusing solely on youth and family theater, DCT builds bridges of understanding

between generations and cultures, instilling an early appreciation of literature, art and the

performing arts in tomorrow’s artists and patrons.

Education was strictly prohibited for African American slaves in mid nineteenth

century America. However, when Lida, a young slave, is secretly taught to read and write

by her uncle, she embarks on a journey of truth and self awareness so powerful and

profound that she is compelled to flee the oppression and brutality of plantation life, and

to seek out the freedom she now understands is her birthright. Courageously leaving all

that she knows behind, Lida begins a dangerous and exciting trek on the Underground

Railroad.  This program is recommended for the entire family.
