PROTECT WATER & SPRINKLER
PIPES FROM FREEZING
Frederick, MD --- The City of Frederick
Building Department would like to caution residents
and property owners to check their water and sprinkler
pipes during the extreme cold weather we are presently
experiencing. Over the past several weeks there have
been several emergency calls in response to frozen
water and sprinkler pipes. The large majority of these
events were caused by inadequate heat as a result
of a thermostat being turned off or turned down to
the lowest setting.
Steve Krone, Fire Protection Engineer
for the City of Frederick, would like to remind residents
that during times of freezing weather, water-filled
pipes can easily freeze if adequate heat is not maintained
in the space where the pipes are located. Ensure that
furnaces and heaters are working properly and are
heating all areas of the space. In addition, please
be sure that pipes within attics or other unheated
areas are adequately insulated.
For additional information, please contact
Steve Krone, Fire Protection Engineer for the City
of Frederick at 301.600.3827.
