STREETLIGHT UPGRADES
Frederick, MD --- The City of Frederick Street Light and Traffic Control Department is currently in the process of upgrading all streetlights currently powered by direct-bury series circuits in the following areas. This work will be done in five phases beginning April 23, 2007 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2007.
Phase 1 – Biggs Avenue
Phase 2 – Grant Place
Phase 3 – Taney Avenue
Phase 4 – Schley Avenue North of Belmont Avenue
Phase 5 – Schley Avenue South
The streetlights will be converted to parallel circuits routed in conduit. Present lamp systems, both incandescent and high-pressure-sodium, will be converted to QL induction lamps. The color of light emitted by the new streetlights will be the same as incandescent. The result will be a safer and more reliable lighting system that is more economical to operate and maintain. Residents will enjoy refurbished poles and new light heads.

IMPACT TO AREA:
During construction, this effort will affect residents as follows:
1) Streetlights in specific project areas will be inoperable for a short duration (45-90 days). We will return the lights to service as quickly as possible.
2) The installation of underground conduits and new pole bases may disturb the ground within the City right-of-way - specifically, the ground between the curb and sidewalk. We will attempt to minimize the areas disturbed. All areas that are disturbed will be restored before completion of the project.
