THE CITY OF FREDERICK OFFICE OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCES SUCCESSFUL HOUSING REHABILITATION PROJECTS FOR GRANT YEAR
Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick Office of Community Development is proud to announce three successful housing, rehabilitation projects in the City of Frederick accomplished over this grant year.
A legally blind and disabled resident of Seventh Street received a complete roof replacement. This resident received approval from the Historic Preservation Commission prior to making application to the Department of Community Development for assistance. The roof was replaced in complete compliance with the Historic Preservation Commission requirements.
A retired East All Saints Street resident, with extensive water damage to the home, received structural remediation, plumbing replacement, full lead abatement and comprehensive rehabilitation to correct the exorbitant heating loss. This project was completed meeting the needs of the owner, while staying in compliance with Historic Preservation requirements.
The biggest project to date involved a resident with a debilitating illness requiring one-floor living. The term “aging in place” allows the resident to remain in the home and community as a result of necessary modifications made to the current residence. Changes to this residence included removing lead-based paint, constructing a ramp for unaccompanied access to the home, installing a special outlet for recharging of an electric wheelchair and the addition of a handicap-accessible bathroom. In addition, the contractor was able to obtain donations of the materials to help offset the cost of the project.
Funding for these projects was made available through CDBG Funds, Maryland Special Leverage Funds and the Lead Hazard Reduction Grant and Loan Program. For more information on the Office of Community Development, please contact Eileen Barnhard, Housing Financial Specialist at 301.228.2842
