CELEBRATE FREDERICK GEARING UP
FOR THE HOLIDAYS IN HISTORIC FREDERICK

From a disco-themed night on the town to a Victorian house tour complete with costumed carolers and holiday décor, Celebrate Frederick presents seven events sure to put you in the holiday spirit. Designed to appeal to all ages, these events capture the charm and ambience of downtown Frederick during the Holiday season. Following is a listing of the events:

Scents and Sweets Competition & Exhibit
Wednesday, November 29th - free
Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center
5:30 to 8 p.m.
Bakers and florists, both amateurs and professionals, create magnificent gingerbread houses and floral centerpieces along a

holiday theme. Winners are determined by a panel of judges and popular vote, and receive cash prizes. The deadline to submit

an entry form is Friday, November 3rd, and entry forms are available online at www.CelebrateFrederick.com or through the

Office of Special Events at 301-228-2841.

Holiday Art Competition & Exhibit
Wednesday, November 29th - free
Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center
5:30 to 8:00 p.m.
Local and regional artists share their vision of the Holidays in Frederick for this juried competition. The winning illustration is

reproduced for the next year’s holiday ad campaign featuring posters, ornaments and more. You can also meet this year’s

winner, Rebecca Pearl, and have her sign a poster of her work “The Classic”. For those interested in competing, the deadline for

entry forms is Friday, October 27th. Forms are available online at www.CelebrateFrederick.com, or through the Office of Special

Events at 301-228-2841.

Kris Kringle Procession
Friday, December 1st - free
6:30 p.m. beginning at the corner of East Street and W. Patrick Street
Celebrate Old World Holiday magic with this parade that welcomes the beginning of the holiday season. The procession features dance troupes, carolers, characters representing Frederick’s German/English heritage, as well as contemporary characters such as Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman and of course, Kris Kringle. The parade concludes at the Baker Park Bandshell, 121 North Bentz Street, for a closing ceremony and the lighting of the City tree.

Routzahn’s Furniture and Kehne’s Carpet One present the Candlelight House Tour
Saturday, December 2nd, 5:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.
Sunday, December 3rd, Noon- 4 p.m.

This self-guided tour allows visitors an inside glimpse into eight private homes located on Clarke Place in Frederick’s historic district. All of the homes have been magnificently decorated for the holidays, and are complemented by costumed carolers and horse-drawn carriages. Visit the historic Hessian Barracks to purchase holiday merchandise and the Wells Fargo Hospitality Center at the Bjorlee Library, both on the grounds of the Maryland School for the Deaf, for complimentary refreshments. Parking is available next to the Maryland School for the Deaf’s gymnasium on South Carroll Street and at Lincoln Elementary School on Madison Street. Children’s Weekend
Saturday, December 9 & Sunday, December 10
Share your child’s holiday excitement during a weekend full of activities just for kids. The weekend includes breakfast with Santa, storytelling, a live musical performance, ornament painting and much more. Reservations are required for Breakfast with Santa. Call Brewer’s Alley at 301-631-0089. Vouchers are required for the live performance at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center on Saturday afternoon. Call 301-228-2841 for reservations. (Some activities charge a small fee.)

Holiday Dance at Studio 54
Saturday, December 9 - $40
William Talley Recreation Center
7 p.m. – Midnight

Dance the night away at the legendary New York hot spot – Studio 54. Disco tunes from the late 70’s and early 80’s will accompany food, a cash bar and much more. Make sure to dress the part, a bouncer will ‘hand-pick’ guests from the crowd to receive premium access to this lavish party. Tickets are available at a number of downtown locations. Festival of Lights
Friday, December 15- free
7 p.m.
This event begins as carolers throughout downtown Frederick proceed toward the courtyard of City Hall. Once at City Hall, attendees are given a candle to hold throughout the ceremony. After holiday greetings and an inspirational message, there is more caroling as each person’s candle is lit, one by one, until the entire courtyard is filled with magnificent light.
