CARROLL CREEK GRAND OPENING

Frederick, MD --- The City of Frederick is proud to announce the Grand Opening of the Carroll Creek Park and the Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Great Frederick Flood of 1976 on Friday, October 20, 2006 from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for 4:30pm at the Amphitheatre located along Carroll Creek. Included in the festivities are performances by Judd & Maggie, 3AM, Junk, and the Maryland Ensemble Theatre as well as the Frederick High School Marching Band, providing entertainment with selections from the musical "Chicago". Boat rides along Carroll Creek will be available from 4:00pm to 8:30pm. In addition, throughout the evening under the south end of the Suspension Bridge, the Frederick News Post will be showing a presentation on the History of Carroll Creek. The evening will be capped off with a grand finale of fireworks at 9:00pm.

A very special part of the evening includes the dedication of the Suspension Bridge in memory of the late William O. Lee, former Alderman for the City of Frederick from 1986-1994. This dedication ceremony will take place on the Suspension Bridge at 8:30 pm and will feature a performance by the Treasures of the Heart Ministries chorale group.

Please note, for safety reasons, two-thirds (2/3) of the MARC parking lot closest to Carroll Creek, will be closed off to all pedestrians and vehicles from 9:30 pm Thursday October 19, 2006 to 9:30 pm Friday, October 20, 2006. You will be able to enter the open one-third of the parking lot through the "exit only" area.  East Street will be temporarily closed from Patrick Street to All Saints Street from 8:30 – 9:15pm for the fireworks display.
