KRIS KRINGLE PROCESSION WELCOMES HOLIDAYS TO FREDERICK
Kris Kringle is coming to town on Friday, December 1st, as the star of this year’s Kris Kringle Procession. Presented by Celebrate Frederick Inc., the event begins at 6:30 p.m. on East Street in Frederick, and ends with the lighting of the City tree in Baker Park.
The procession mirrors the small town charm that makes Frederick so special during the holidays. Local children dressed as reindeer, snowflakes, angels, elves, and gifts will accompany costumed characters, some modern, some traditional, through Frederick’s downtown streets. The parade route goes from East Street to East Patrick Street, turns onto N. Market Street, and then turns onto West Second Street, ending at Baker Park. Nearly all of the streets are illuminated by thousands of tiny white lights.
Several of the procession’s characters reflect Frederick’s German heritage, including Pelsnickle and Weinacht Man, who help Kris Kringle judge whether children have been bad or good. Krist Kindle is an angel-like messenger who leaves gifts for good children in small baskets. The procession also includes several modern characters, such as Frosty the Snowman and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
The procession’s closing ceremony will include carol singing, and holiday greetings from Mayor William J. Holtzinger, the Snow Queen, and Kris Kringle himself. The crowd leads the countdown to the lighting of the official City tree.
The Kris Kringle Procession would not be possible without the hard work of the volunteers of the Holidays in Historic Frederick Committee, and the following community-minded businesses: Spires Sponsors - Bechtel Foundation, Cellular One, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank, Spectrum Federal Credit Union and Weis Markets; Carillon Sponsors – Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Roy Rogers-a Plamondon Company and The Frederick News-Post; Bandshell Sponsors – BB&T and the Frederick Arts Council. A special thank you to 2006 Media Sponsor The Gazette and to the Tourism Council of Frederick County.
