HOLIDAY ART WINNER TO BE UNVEILED
You are invited to view the entries to this year’s Holiday Art Competition at a free reception at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center on Wednesday, November 29th from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Come and see if you can pick the winner, before the official announcement is made!
The theme of this prestigious competition is “The Holidays in Historic Frederick.” The winning artist will receive a $1,000 cash prize, and their artwork will be used for the 2007 holiday season posters, ornaments, postcards, and other promotional materials.
The judges for this year’s contest are The Gazette publisher Amy Benton, owner and creative director of Elliot Design Group, Shannon Elliot, and artist Charlie Shobe. Event chairman Barbara Maghan will announce the winner at 6 p.m.
Rebecca Pearl, last year’s contest winner, will be on hand to sign her poster, titled “ The Classic.” A nutcracker in the poster has been reproduced to create a 24K gold overlay holiday ornament that will also be for sale.
These events would not be possible without the hard work of the volunteers of the Holidays in Historic Frederick Committee, and the following community-minded businesses: Spires Sponsors - Bechtel Foundation, Cellular One, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank, Spectrum Federal Credit Union and Weis Markets; Carillon Sponsors – Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Roy Rogers-a Plamondon Company and The Frederick News-Post; Bandshell Sponsors – BB&T and the Frederick Arts Council. A special thank you to 2006 Media Sponsor The Gazette and to the Tourism Council of Frederick County.
The Delaplaine Center is located at 40 S. Carroll Street in Frederick. For more information on the Holiday Art Competition, please call The City of Frederick Office of Special Events at 301-600-CITY or visit our web site at www.CelebrateFrederick.com.
