AND AUTHOR FRANK DEFORD TO FREDERICK

Free Author Appearances Cap a Series of Events to Promote Recreational Reading
Frederick, Md.--- On Monday, April 3rd, the first annual Frederick Reads will culminate with the appearance of renowned writer and commentator, Frank Deford, at several locations in Frederick. The public is invited to the appearances, which will feature Deford's broad range of work.
Deford is a commentator on National Public Radio's Morning Edition, a senior contributing writer at Sports Illustrated, and a regular on HBO's Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel. The Baltimore native has written 15 books - among them, Everybody's All American, and Alex: The Life of a Child, both of which were made into movies. Six times, Deford has been named U.S. Sportswriter of the Year, and he holds a place of honor in the National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters' Hall of Fame.
The public is invited to attend any of Deford's free appearances on Monday, April 3:

Frederick Reads Presents "Writing as a vocation"
Deford will give a brief talk, answer questions, and read from one of his books. This session will be moderated by Frederick News-Post reporter Katie Leslie. Light refreshments will also be served.

Frederick Reads Presents "The author and his work"
Deford will discuss his body of work with WYPR/WYPF 88.1 radio host Marc Steiner. This event will be taped for broadcast April 4 on the Marc Steiner Show on WYPR/WYPF 88.1.

Deford will be introduced by John Fieseler, executive director of the Tourism Council of Frederick County.
Frederick Reads is a series of interrelated events produced by a consortium of literary, academic, historical, cultural, business and residential supporters to foster the joy of reading. Partners include: Hood College, Frederick Community College, The City of Frederick, Frederick County Public Libraries, The Frederick News-Post, Wonder Books, Downtown Frederick Partnership, WYPR 88.1 FM, Frederick County Public Schools, The Literacy Council of Frederick County, National Cancer Institute, Cinemarts, Inc., The Frederick Historic Sites Consortium and the Maryland Shakespeare Festival.
