WASHINGTON D.C. ROOTS ROCK ARTIST TO PLAY BAKER PARK

Well known in Washington D.C., roots rock artist Janine Wilson will perform in Baker Park on Sunday, June 25th. The Summer Concert Series Committee of Celebrate Frederick Inc. will present this free concert as part of this year’s Series. The performance will begin at 7 p.m.

Drawing comparison to a young Bette Midler, Wilson’s eclectic taste has influenced her style with everyone from Etta James to Laura Nyro and Elvis Costello. Having benefited from the tutelage of some of Texas’ finest honky-tonk musicians, Wilson further honored her vocal chops and cultivated her own inimitable stage presence.

With the backing of some of the Capitol-area’s finest players, Wilson’s live performances have accumulated both a loyal fan base and critical acclaim. The Washington Post has called Wilson “poignant and seductive…”

Wilson has graced stages across the nation, including forays in New York, San Francisco, Austin, and New Orleans. In the process she has performed with such luminaries as Dilbert McClinton, Marcia Ball, and Coco Montoya.

Plan to arrive early to enjoy a free Carillon performance in Baker Park beginning at 6 p.m. featuring John A. Widmann, City Carillonneur for The City of Frederick. Great snack foods and drinks will be available from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the Concert Series performance.

While the concerts are FREE to the public, the Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank. Items will be collected at the new Information Booth located at the top of the bandshell steps in Baker Park. A special thank you to Drees Homes for this generous donation.

In the event of inclement weather, please tune to 99.9 WFRE, 103.1 WAFY or 106.9 WWEG for news of event cancellation. Due to the travel time and set-up by various artists and the sound production company, decisions regarding weather are made by 4:00 PM. Therefore, if the weather is inclement at this time, listen to the radio for confirmation of the evening’s performance being cancelled.

This year’s programming would not be possible without the generous support of the following corporate sponsors: Spires level sponsors are Bechtel Foundation, CellularOne, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank, Spectrum Federal Credit Union and Weis Markets. Carillon level sponsors are Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Roy Rogers-A Plamondon Company, and The Frederick News Post. Bandshell level sponsors are BB&T and the Frederick Arts Council.

The Summer Concert Series will continue each Sunday evening at 7 p.m. through August 27th. For a complete schedule, to volunteer, or for more information, call 301-600-CITY (2489) or visit www.BakerParkConcerts.com
