FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

INFORMATION:

Red Light Photo Enforcement – June 2006 results

INCIDENT SUMMARY:  The Frederick Police Department has compiled the results for June 2006 for violations and citations issued at the intersections currently monitored by red light cameras.

There were a total of 942 recorded violations at monitored intersections. Of these, there were 627 citations issued.  There are many factors for the quantity of discarded violations (no citation issued), which include:  funeral processions; exempt vehicles (emergency vehicles with emergency lights flashing); out of state vehicles; mismatched registrations or no record of the registration; tag image or vehicle image not clear.

The intersection breakdown is as follows:

Intersection Breakdown

E. 3rd  @ East.        Motter @ W.7th      Opossumtown @ Thomas Johnson      Rosemont @ Montevue       Rosemont @ Schley

  24(344)             58(715)                     111(617)                             248(2883)              186(2091)

The numbers parenthetically represent the total since the program began on May 31, 2005.   The total amount of citations issued amounts to 6,650.

There continue to be a large percentage of red light violations occurring at Rosemont Avenue at Schley Avenue attributed to motorists making a right hand turn onto Schley Ave. who fail to stop before proceeding.  The Frederick Police Department would like to remind motorists that they are required to stop at the stop line when the signal is red before making a right turn.

Those that receive a citation may view a video of the violation at the City’s web site, www.cityoffrederick.com, and follow the link on the web page titled “View your red light video.”  Have your citation with you, it is password protected by using the citation and registration (tag) number.

Construction and installation will begin soon on two (2) additional intersections that will be equipped with red light cameras.  These locations are 1.  E. Patrick Street @ Monocacy Blvd. and

2.  Willowdale Drive @ Key Parkway.
