COMSTAR FEDERAL CREDIT UNION BRINGS THE JUNGLE TO
SUMMERFEST FAMILY THEATRE SERIES

The lowlands of Ethiopia come alive on Saturday, July 29th as the Catskill Puppet Theater brings the timeless tale of The Lion’s Whiskers to Baker Park. Presented by COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, the performance is part of the Summerfest Family Theatre and will begin at 7 p.m. Quality Language Foundation will open the show with story time on the steps of the bandshell.

Touring internationally since 1979, Catskill Puppet Theater co-founders John Potocnik and Carol Mandigo are experts at charming young and old alike with their delightful musical productions and engaging puppets. Dedicated to the tradition of traveling puppet troupes, the duo brings high quality entertainment to over 75,000 children each year. Join them in the heart of Africa for The Lion’s Whiskers where a young woman struggles to create a happy home for her new, ‘blended’ family. Through humor and stunning visuals, the veteran puppeteers examine the powerful emotions felt in relationships and the need for patience, reconciliation and love.

While the performances are FREE to the public, the Summerfest Family Theatre Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank. Items will be collected at the new Information Booth donated by Drees Homes, located at the top of the bandshell steps in Baker Park. A special thank you to Drees Homes for this generous donation.

In the event of inclement weather, please tune to 99.9 WFRE or 103.1 WAFY for news of event cancellation. Due to the travel time and set-up by various artists and the sound production company, decisions regarding weather are made by approx. 4:00 PM. Therefore, if the weather is inclement at this time, listen to the radio for confirmation of the evening’s performance being cancelled.

This year’s theater series would not be possible without the generous support of the following corporate sponsors. The Spires Sponsors are Bechtel Foundation, CelllularOne, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank, Spectrum Federal Credit Union and Weis Markets. The Carillon Sponsors are Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Roy Rogers – A Plamondon Company and The Frederick News-Post. The Bandshell Sponsors are BB&T and Frederick Arts Council.

The Summerfest Family Theatre will continue every Saturday evening through August 26th. For a complete schedule, to volunteer, or for more information, call 301-600-CITY (2489) or visit www.CelebrateFrederick.com.
