STAR SPANGLED BIG BAND OF FREDERICK, MD
TO PLAY IN BAKER PARK
The Star Spangled Big Band of Frederick, MD will perform at the Baker Park Bandshell on Sunday, July 23rd as part of the 2006 Summer Concert Series presented by Drees Homes. The free performance will begin at 7 p.m.
Put on your dancing shoes, this is a performance not to be missed. The Star Spangled Big Band of Frederick, MD is Frederick’s own Bassie-style big jazz band that is sure to get you on your feet. The band, which began in 2000, is keeping the Big Band and Swing Dancing experience alive in our City.
The band’s repertoire includes a unique blend of big band standards, swing dance tunes, and sentimental favorites. The Star Spangled Big Band of Frederick, MD has played for Fredericks 4th – An Independence Day Celebration, the Lilypons Koi and Wine Festival, Frederick’s IN THE STREET, as well as other public and private events.
Plan to arrive early to enjoy a free Carillon performance in the park beginning at 6 p.m. featuring John A. Widmann, City Carillonneur for The City of Frederick with the Frederick Pipes and Drums. Great snack foods and drinks will be available from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. during the Concert Series performance.
While the concerts are FREE to the public, the Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank. Items will be collected at the new Information Booth located at the top of the bandshell steps in Baker Park. A special thank you to Drees Homes for this generous donation.
In the event of inclement weather, please tune to 99.9 WFRE or 103.1 WAFY for news of event cancellation. Due to the travel time and set-up by various artists and the sound production company, decisions regarding weather are made by approx. 4:00 PM. Therefore, if the weather is inclement at this time, listen to the radio for confirmation of the evening’s performance being cancelled.
This year’s programming would not be possible without the generous support of the following corporate sponsors: Spires level sponsors are Bechtel Foundation, CellularOne, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank, Spectrum Federal Credit Union and Weis Markets. Carillon level sponsors are Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Roy Rogers-A Plamondon Company, and The Frederick News-Post. Bandshell level sponsors are BB&T and the Frederick Arts Council.
