EAST CHURCH STREET RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT COMPLETES MONUMENTAL TASK

Frederick, Md. ---- For the residents of East Church Street they are one large step closer to the East Church Street Reconstruction Project completion. The project, which started in July of 2004, has accomplished several monumental goals. The ADA compliant brick sidewalks have been completed with the exception of touching up small areas surrounding tree wells and meter posts. Eighty year-old water mains were replaced in the street along with modern lateral connections replacing the antiquated lead and galvanized piping that serviced the properties. In addition, 80 year-old sewer mains were also replaced complete with new house connections along the three-block project. The street will be fully reopened to normal traffic flow and parking meters will be reinstalled.

When the final paving process is completed this spring (estimated May 2006), the road surface will have received a final asphalt topcoat with striping. In addition to the above-mentioned completed goals, many of the street surface imperfections and stormwater ponding problem areas will be eliminated. This final phase will take place when the 1) temperatures rise and it is conducive to work with the asphalt; and, 2) when the asphalt plants re-open.
