CITY OF FREDERICK SEEKING TO FILL COMMISSION, COMMITTEE AND BOARD VACANCIES
Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick is seeking interested parties to fill the following commission, committee and board vacancies:
Fair Housing Commission
Seeking two full members to serve terms of three years. The Fair Housing Commission convenes bi-monthly. The Housing Discrimination Ordinance established the Fair Housing Commission to investigate complaints of discriminatory practices in housing and to educate and inform the public on their rights to Fair Housing. Historic Preservation Commission (HPC)
Seeking an alternate member to serve a term of one year and two full members to serve three-year terms. The Historic Preservation Commission convenes two or more times each month. Responsibilities of this commission include reviewing and making considerations of any application for any type of construction, alteration, reconstruction, moving, or demolition on any structure within the historic district. The majority of the total members of the HPC must be residents of the City of Frederick. Parks and Recreation Commission
This commission is seeking two full members to serve terms of three years. The Parks and Recreation Commission convenes one time each month. This commission develops and recommends to the Planning Commission, Mayor, and Board of Aldermen, a master parks plan. It also makes recommendations concerning equipment, design, supervision, and operations of all city parks, recreation areas and facilities. The commission also approves the use of all city parks, recreation areas, and facilities not requiring the expenditure of City funds, as well as recommends the approval of the use of such facilities should the use require the expenditure of City funds. Each shall be a resident of the City of Frederick, own property in the City or operate a business or have his/her primary employment with a business located in the City of Frederick and be a registered voter. Ethics Commission
Seeking two full members to serve three-year terms. The Ethics Commission convenes on an as-needed basis. The role of the Ethics Commission is devise, receive, and maintain all forms generated by the Ethics law of the City Charter. Commission members provide opinions to persons subject to the Ethics law and process and make determinations as to complaints alleging violations of the Ethics law. Members of this committee are also responsible for conducting public information programs regarding the purposes of the Ethics law. Preference is given to City of Frederick residents. Labor Relations Board
The Labor Relations Panel will hear evidence and make written findings concerning grievances filed by the City of Frederick Police Officers. The five-member panel is currently seeking three members to serve two-year terms. Each member of the panel shall be a registered voter and resident of the City of Frederick resident, own property in the City, or operate a business or have his or her primary employment with a business located in the City. Building Code Appeals Board
Seeking four voting members for this newly created board, as follows:
- Two members must be Maryland Registered Architects, each having a business office within the City and having been engaged in the business of architecture within the City for at least five years.
- One Maryland Registered Engineer having an office within the City and having been engaged in the business of engineering within the City for at least five years.
- One Maryland Registered Contractor having been engaged in the business of contracting within the City for at least five years.
Members will sit as a board of arbitration with respect to any disputes that arise involving interpretation of provisions of the Building Code or regulations promulgated thereunder. Meetings will be held on the call of the Chairman. Term for each member is 3 years with the initial term of one of the two architects being two years. Board of Fire Appeals
Seeking three full members to serve initial terms of one, two and three years respectively on this newly created board, as well as one alternate to serve a two-year term. Each member must be qualified by training and expertise in the areas of fire prevention and protection in order to hear appeals and have authority to affirm, modify or reverse any order or decision of the City Fire Protection Engineer. Plumbing Board
Seeking two full members to serve terms of two and three years respectively. Each member must be a Master Plumber registered with the City of Frederick in accordance with provisions of Section 16 of the Frederick City Code and shall have been engaged in the business of plumbing within the City of Frederick for not less than five years. Electrical Board
Seeking one full member to serve a term of three years. This individual must be a representative of the building trade industry who actively does work within the City of Frederick.
