SNOW AND THE CITY

Frederick, Md. --- Well, it has been some time since the City of Frederick crews and residents had to deal with the affects of a major snowstorm. As forecasted the City received approximately 14 inches of snow over a 24-hour period of time this past weekend. Mayor William J. Holtzinger was impressed by the efforts of not only the Department of Public Works and the Frederick City Police, but also of the residents. A declaration of a Snow Emergency by the Mayor requires residents to be knowledgeable about process and procedure. This weekend’s snow removal was well orchestrated and resulted in the downtown parking restrictions being lifted just three hours after being implemented. The resident response to the declared Snow Emergency and the pending snowstorm allowed the Police and Department of Public Works to clear the streets for safe travel in a reasonable amount of time. City crews were able to begin salting the roadways at 6 p.m. on Saturday, begin plowing at 2 a.m. on Sunday and ended at 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Thanks to the City workers and residents who assisted in making this snow clean up successful.
