ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDS TO PERFORM AT
SUMMERFEST FAMILY THEATRE

Environmentalists, musicians, teachers…all of these words describe the performing duo Magpie. Touring for over three decades, Greg Artzner and Terry Leonino will make a stop in Frederick’s Baker Park as part of Celebrate Frederick’s Summerfest Family Theatre on Saturday, August 12th at 7 p.m. Miss Frederick, Tauri Summers, will conduct a brief dance workshop prior to the main performance.

Master artists with the Wolf Trap Institute for Early Learning Through the Arts, Magpie works with children and families to develop methods for using music as a tool in early childhood development. Coupling this with their commitment to environmental stewardship, Terry and Greg created the “Living Planet” program to honor Mother Earth and her creatures. Join them in celebrating the diversity of life, from whales to wolves, from magpies to macaws, from teeming oceans to the frozen tundra. Share in the vision of a generation of guardians of the Earth’s diversity and custodians of a Living Planet.

While the performances are FREE to the public, the Summerfest Family Theatre Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank. Items will be collected at the new Information Booth donated by Drees Homes, located at the top of the bandshell steps in Baker Park. A special thank you to Drees Homes for this generous donation.

In the event of inclement weather, please tune to 99.9 WFRE or 103.1 WAFY for news of event cancellation. Due to the travel time and set-up by various artists and the sound production company, decisions regarding weather are made by approx. 4:00 PM. Therefore, if the weather is inclement at this time, listen to the radio for confirmation of the evening’s performance being cancelled.

This year’s theater series would not be possible without the generous support of the following corporate sponsors. The Spires Sponsors are Bechtel Foundation, CellularOne, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank, Spectrum Federal Credit Union and Weis Markets. The Carillon Sponsors are Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Roy Rogers – A Plamondon Company and The Frederick News-Post. The Bandshell Sponsors are BB&T and Frederick Arts Council.

The Summerfest Family Theatre will continue every Saturday evening through August 26th. For a complete schedule, to volunteer, or for more information, call 301-600-CITY (2489) or visit www.CelebrateFrederick.com.
