SUMMERFEST FAMILY THEATRE ENDS SEASON WITH FREE CARNIVAL

Where can you find moon bounces, train rides, clowns, crafts and much more? At the third annual Summerfest Family Theatre carnival – an all FREE celebration that will precede the final series program on Saturday, August 26th. Celebrate Frederick will present the carnival from 5-7 p.m., followed by an exciting performance by the Skip Wizard Jump Rope Team at 7 p.m.

The Summerfest carnival is sure to be a hit with Frederick’s youngest citizens. Expect to find inflatable amusements, great giveaways, snacks and pony rides – all free, courtesy of the Summerfest Family Theatre committee. In between activities, take time to meet Jimbo the Clown, McGruff the Crime Dog, Sandy Spring Bank’s Sandy Dog, Freddie Post the News Hound, and the Chick-fil-A cow. Special appearances will even be made by Dora the Explorer and SpongeBob Square Pants!

Don’t miss the energetic performance by the Skip Wizards Jump Rope Team following the carnival at 7 p.m. in the bandshell. Made up of young athletes from around Frederick County, the group is a nationally ranked Competition and Demonstration team. Participants in the Junior Olympics, both the Junior and the Senior teams won gold medals at the last competition in New Orleans.

While the performances are FREE to the public, the Summerfest Family Theatre Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank. Items will be collected at the new Information Booth donated by Drees Homes, located at the top of the bandshell steps in Baker Park. A special thank you to Drees Homes for this generous donation.

In the event of inclement weather, please tune to 99.9 WFRE or 103.1 for news of event cancellation. Due to the travel time and set-up by various artists and the sound production company, decisions regarding weather are made by approximately 4:00 PM. Therefore, if the weather is inclement at this time, listen to the radio for confirmation of the evening’s performance being cancelled.

This year’s theater series would not be possible without the generous support of the following corporate sponsors. The Spires Sponsors are Bechtel Foundation, CellularOne, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank, Spectrum Federal Credit Union and Weis Markets. The Carillon Sponsors are Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Roy Rogers – A Plamondon Company and The Frederick News-Post. The Bandshell Sponsors are BB&T and Frederick Arts Council.

The Summerfest Family Theatre series concludes on Saturday, August 26th. For a complete schedule, to volunteer, or for more information about Celebrate Frederick, call 301-600-CITY (2489) or visit www.CelebrateFrederick.com.
