SPRING VALLEY SUBDIVISION STREETLIGHT UPGRADES TO BEGIN MID-APRIL
Frederick, Md. --- At the March 16th City of Frederick Mayor and Board of Aldermen Public Meeting approval was received for the funding of streetlight upgrades in the Spring Valley Subdivision. These upgrades are part of a citywide capital improvement project that allows the City's Street Light and Traffic Control Department to improve the safety, reliability, and efficiency of aged lighting circuits. All of these streetlights will be converted to parallel circuits routed in conduit and their present lamp systems, both incandescent and high-pressure-sodium, will be converted to QL induction lamps. The color of light emitted by the new streetlights will be the same as incandescent. The result will be a safer and more reliable lighting system that is more economical to operate and maintain. The residents will enjoy refurbished poles and new light heads.
Construction will begin on or around Monday, April 17, 2006. It is anticipated this project will be completed by November 20, 2006. The City will segment the overall construction project into several phases in an effort to maintain lighting on one side of each street at all times during the construction.
Please note the following phases:
Phase 1 - Fairview Avenue
Phase 2 - West 12th Street
Phase 3 - Oakwood Drive
Phase 4 - Beechwood Drive
Phase 5 - Pinewood Drive
Impact to the Area:
1) Streetlights in specific project areas will be inoperable for a short duration (45-90 days). We will return the lights to service as quickly as possible.
2) The installation of underground conduits and new pole bases may disturb the
ground within the City right-of-way - specifically, the ground between the curb and sidewalk. We will attempt to minimize the areas disturbed. All areas that are disturbed will be restored before completion of the project.
We request your patience during the construction and ensure you that the City will restore all areas disturbed during construction. Questions or concerns regarding this work should be directed to 301-600-1167.
