Smell the “Sweet Scents” of the Holidays

Do you like to bake? Arrange flowers? Have an artistic touch? Then don’t miss this year’s Scents & Sweets Competition!

Presented by Celebrate Frederick Inc. and the Holiday Committee of Historic Frederick, this design contest is open to professional and amateur bakers and artists. The goal is to create a gingerbread house or a floral centerpiece that represents the holidays. Gingerbread houses can also be churches, historic sites or any kind of structure you can dream up!

Judging will take place on Wednesday, November 30 th at a reception at the Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center. A panel of judges and popular vote will determine the winners. Cash prizes will be awarded in amateur and professional divisions in both the gingerbread house and floral centerpiece categories. Kids can enter too; there’s a children’s category for the gingerbread competition.

New this year, gingerbread houses may be displayed during First Saturday Gallery Walk in downtown Frederick on Saturday, December 3 rd.

The deadline to enter is Friday, November 11, and there is a $10 entry fee. Houses and centerpieces must be delivered to the Delaplaine Center at 40 South Carroll Street in Frederick on Wednesday, November 30 th, beginning at 10 a.m.
