MAYOR DOUGHERTY DECLARES JUNE 5TH
NATIONAL CANCER SURVIVORS DAY
Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty presented a proclamation today declaring June 5th to be National Cancer Survivors Day.
The proclamation read:
WHEREAS, A “cancer survivor” is defined as anyone living with a history of cancer, and there are 9.8 million cancer survivors in America; and
WHEREAS, Over 1.3 million new cancer cases will be diagnosed in the United States this year, and increased access to quality cancer care, screening and prevention is a top priority in our community; and
WHEREAS, The FMH Regional Cancer Therapy Center has been providing cancer care to the citizens of the Frederick community since 1989; and
WHEREAS, The FMH Regional Cancer Therapy Center has been recognized as one of the leading community-based cancer care facilities in the nation by the American Society of Clinical Oncology; and
WHEREAS, The FMH Regional Cancer Therapy Center has received a three-year accreditation from the American College of Surgeons; and
WHEREAS, Communities throughout the United States, Canada and other participating countries will be celebrating life on Sunday, June 5, as part of the world’s largest cancer survivor event; and
WHEREAS, On behalf of the people of the City of Frederick, Maryland, I salute all cancer survivors and those who support them;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty, do hereby proclaim observance of NATIONAL CANCER SURVIVORS DAY on SUNDAY, JUNE 5, 2005 in The City of Frederick, Maryland, and urge all citizens to join in this joyous celebration.
