SUMMERJAM STAGE FEATURES LOCAL BANDS

There will be close to seven hours of music by local up-and-coming bands on the Summerjam Stage in Baker Park on Monday, July 4th. Part of this year’s Frederick’s 4th - an Independence Day Celebration, and hosted by Music for Unity, nearly all of the six acts on this stage feature familiar faces from several Frederick county high schools. The music starts at noon, and will end around 6:30 p.m.
Alternative/progressive band Rock Monahan kicks off the lineup. Drummer Evan Owens is a Frederick High School student, while the rest of the band - bass player Brian Weakly, vocalist Ian Wilson and guitarist Myles Vlachos - all attend Urbana High School. The band counts Coldplay, Radiohead, Beck, the Who, the Beatles and themselves among their influences.
Ska band The Lost Tourists take the stage at 1:05 p.m. Comprised of Urbana High School students Joe Benny, David Krasner, Andres Lobos, and Daphne London, the group has been together for about a year. They take their influences from progressive metal to acoustic, from funk to ska, and mesh it all into one and to create a great sound.
At 2:10 p.m. indie/acoustic rock quartet Ludo and a Thousand Miles of Ocean will start. Featuring Urbana High student Bryce Davis, and Frederick High students Dane Galloway and David Lester, and trumpter Jacob Wolf, this band mixes their own musical backgrounds to create something that is unique but not pretentious. The band is also working on a full-length album.
Stick around at 3:15 p.m. for Transcendent Third, a folk/rock/emo band that’s making its second appearance on the Summerjam stage. These identical twins from West Virginia deliver powerful lyrics with emotion that only a youth could know, and with a wisdom that is well beyond their years.
At 4:20 p.m. Pennsylvania-based metal band Dreams in Fear will rock the stage. They have performed with and won the praise of Kittie, Otep, Crisis, Carfax Abbey, Suture Seven, Brainclaw and Fountain of Tears. 2004 brought them world-wide radio airplay of their single "Soul Drain" from their self-titled CD and they spent much of the year on the road supporting the CD and captivating audiences everywhere.
And, at 5:40 p.m., emo alternative band Something Pure will complete the stage lineup. Started by a group of Governor Thomas Johnson High School students, the group is known for incredible vocals, striking guitar riffs, and hard-hitting drum beats. The band’s dedication to its music, and vibrant personality that shines on stage, steals the hearts of all types of audiences.
While you’re there, don’t miss the chance to try your hand at Jump Shot Basketball or Twister, all for free!
