DIXIE POWER TRIO BRINGS NEW ORLEANS TO BAKER PARK
Break out your Mardi Gras beads and head to Baker Park Sunday, June 19th as the Dixie Power Trio and New Line Brass Band transports the bandshell to New Orleans. Celebrate Frederick Inc. will present the group as part of this year’s Summer Concert Series. The free concert begins at 7 p.m.
Making its second Summer Concert Series appearance, The Dixie Power Trio and New Line Brass Band is big, brassy and sure to make you smile. The only trio we know of with four members, the band’s roots are firmly in all that is New Orleans: dixieland, zydeco, swing, cajun, and rock n' roll. The Dixie Power Trio isn’t satisfied just playing the classics though: the group borrows material from Dr. John, Chuck Berry, Jelly Roll Morton, even the Ramones and Led Zeppelin to reinvent the classics. At the same time, they take pride in the authenticity of their New Orleans jazz repertoire and original compositions. No matter where their material comes from, the Dixie Power Trio transforms it into something fun and uniquely their own.
Plan to arrive early to enjoy Lvsitanvs, the carillon duo from Portugal, in concert at 6 p.m. Two sisters, carillonneurs Ana and Sara Elias, make up this group. Both Ana and Sara have played numerous carillon recitals in their native Portugal, as well as in other European countries and in the U.S.A. The sisters are also regular performers and lecturers at international carillon congresses and festivals. Frederick’s carillon is one of only two in the entire state of Maryland.
While the concerts are FREE to the public, the Summer Concert Series Committee encourages you to bring a canned food item in lieu of admission to each performance. Non-perishable items such as canned meats and vegetables, soups, peanut butter, cereal, rice and pastas are requested. All items collected benefit the Frederick City Community Action Agency Food Bank.
The 2005 Summer Concert Series is a sub-committee of Celebrate Frederick, which is supported financially by the following community-minded businesses: Gold Sponsors - Bechtel Foundation, Chase Credit Card Services, Cellular One, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank, and Weis Markets; Silver Sponsors - Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Farmers and Mechanics Bank, Frederick News-Post and Spectrum Federal Credit Union; Bronze Sponsors - BB&T, CitiMortgage and the Frederick Arts Council.
