SINGING GROUP MILKSHAKE
KICKS OFF 2005 SUMMERFEST FAMILY THEATER SERIES
What do you get when two alternative rock and rollers have children? Milkshake - a rockin’ musical group just for kids! Celebrate Frederick Inc. will present the band in Frederick’s Baker Park to kick off this year’s Summerfest Family Theatre series on Saturday, July 9th at 7 p.m. Local sign-language group Singing Hands will be the opening act.
Milkshake is Lisa Mathews and Mikel Gehl, members of the popular Baltimore-based indie band Love Riot. When each became a new parent, they decided the rock and roll lifestyle wasn’t family friendly. The duo joined forces on a collection of children’s songs, and Milkshake was born. The group, which can expand to a trio or a full 6-piece band, and has two CD’s full of songs that will appeal both to kids and Love Riot fans as well! If you like them here, don’t miss them in October, when the full band plays in Kids’ Block at IN THE STREET!
This year’s theater series would not be possible without the generous support of the following corporate sponsors. The Gold Sponsors are Bechtel Foundation, Cellular One, Chase Credit Card Services, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank and Weis Markets. The Silver Sponsors are Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Farmers and Mechanics Bank, The Frederick News-Post, and Spectrum Federal Credit Union. The Bronze Sponsors are BB&T, CitiMortgage, and Frederick Arts Council.
In lieu of admission, the Summerfest Family Theatre committee asks that you bring a canned food item to support the Frederick Community Action Agency Food Bank. To volunteer, or for more information, call 301-600-CITY (2489) or visit www.Celebrate Frederick.com .
