DEANNA BOGART TO HEADLINE
CELEBRATE FREDERICK FUNDRAISER
Regional favorite blues and boogie singer Deanna Bogart will bring a preview of the 2005 Summer Concert Series in Baker Park to Frederick’s Weinberg Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 2nd. The concert is a fundraiser for Celebrate Frederick, the nonprofit organization that partners with the City of Frederick to plan and produce several annual local events, including the Summer Concert Series. Local rock band The Cool Jerks, another Summer Concert Series favorite, will be the opening act.
Bogart promises to bring a rockin’ good time to the Weinberg. Described as “an extravagant entertainer,” and a “ray of sunshine that never loses energy or impact,” the blues and boogie pianist/saxophonist combines the energy of 1930’s style boogie with contemporary blues sounds. Bogart and her band have been together for nearly a decade, playing with such musical powerhouses as BB King, Ray Charles, and James Brown, and winning no less than 20 Washington Area Music Awards while touring the U.S. and overseas.
The concert kicks-off a new name and new look for Celebrate Frederick. Formerly known as Cultural Events for Educating Frederick, the organization works with the City of Frederick’s Office of Special Events to create some of the area’s most popular events. They include Beyond the Garden Gates Garden Tour, Summer Nite Cinema, Baker Park’s Summer Concert Series, Frederick’s July 4th celebration, Summerfest Family Theatre, IN THE STREET, and seven holiday events, including the Candlelight House Tour and the Kris Kringle Procession.
Many of these events have become a Frederick tradition. Summer Concert Series will celebrate its 27th season this year, while Frederick’s 4th and IN THE STREET will celebrate 23 years. These events, planned by volunteer committees, are designed to showcase the Frederick community’s resources while providing high-quality activities that are free or low cost.
Celebrate Frederick’s new look will come from the community as well. The group is currently holding a logo design contest, and the winner will be unveiled the night of the fundraiser. The contest prize is $500, and the logo will be used on all promotional materials. For more information about the contest, call the Office of Special Events at 301-228-2844, or visit www.CelebrateFrederick.com .
All of the events coordinated by Celebrate Frederick would not be possible without the generous support of the following community-minded businesses: 2005 Gold Sponsors - Bank One, Bechtel Foundation, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank and Weis Markets; 2005 Silver Sponsors - Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Farmers & Mechanics Bank, and the Frederick News-Post; 2005 Bronze Sponsors - BB&T, Cellular One, CitiMortgage and the Frederick-Arts Council.
