PUBLIC SAFETY CAMERA SYSTEM IS LIVE IN CITY’S PARKING DECKS

Frederick, Md.---The City of Frederick’s three parking decks will be safer now as a result of the installation of a state-of-the-art video monitoring system.
The system, designed, installed and monitored by SPARTA Consulting Corporation, a local Frederick technology business, is able to monitor the city’s parking garages while providing real-time video to security and law enforcement agencies. Police Chief Kim Dine said the system will increase public safety by reducing crime opportunity and provide the police department with another tool in making Frederick life more secure.
“Frederick is leading the region by providing this sophisticated system to watch for criminal activity and allow law enforcement to be proactive in preventing crime opportunity instead of reacting to crime in progress,” said Mayor Jennifer P. Dougherty.
The monitoring system consists of digital video cameras with views of all entries, exits and parking decks in the city garages. The cameras are networked to sophisticated control equipment that allows monitoring officers with secured access to focus on potential crime situations from any location. The OnGuardsm system provides intelligent video, including motion detection, to law enforcement and security forces from remote, as well as headquarters locations. This network access allows emergency responders to have a better picture of a situation or, in the event that pursuit is necessary, have a complete identification of the involved criminals.
Severin Sorensen, CEO of SPARTA, touted his company’s OnGuardsm intelligent surveillance system as a critical public safety tool. “Our integrated system allows all public safety organizations to access critical video in real-time to make important decisions with the most accurate information, and then to monitor that situation as it develops during response.”
Mayor Dougherty cited the parking garage system as a good example of how the City of Frederick is improving public safety by using state-of-the-art technology that helps the first responders more effectively deal with threats. The parking garage system was a competitive procurement that resulted in significant savings to the city that came in ahead of schedule.
