Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick Recreation Department’s Little Hoops Basketball program is currently in the midst of its 7th year. The program has come a long way from the winter of 1999 when 60 kids took part in the inaugural program. Since that time, the program has shown steady growth. This season, over 180 children encompass the 18 teams that compete every Monday and Wednesday evening through mid-March. The program has been full to capacity the past two seasons. Little Hoops is broken into two divisions - the Junior Varsity program is for children ages 6 - 8, and the varsity program comprises children ages 9 - 11. The program thrives on the dedication of the countless parent volunteers who coach the teams. Program goals revolve around teamwork and fun. Each coach stresses the fundamentals of the game. Registration for the program begins in October of each year. If you are interested in the Little Hoops Program for the winter of 2006, be sure to inquire next fall - the program fills quickly.
