CHRISTMAS TREE COLLECTION PROGRAM INCREASES RECYCLING EFFORTS FOR THE CITY
Frederick, Md. --- Please be advised that for the second year the City of Frederick’s revised Christmas Tree Recycling Program will take place. A few things have changed this year as a result of requests by the citizens. This year there will be no curbside tree collection. Citizen’s can dispose of their trees in two ways: at the County landfill or by taking the trees to one of four City drop off locations. This year the City will collect trees from December 26th through the end of January. Once trees are dropped off at one of the City’s collection sites, the trees will be ground up and utilized as biodegradable mulch.
This effort has many beneficial results.
- It conserves space in the landfill
- It produces a useful by product -mulch
- Soil temperature moderation
- Moisture/water retention
- Reduction of competition (weeds)
- Recycling of nutrients through decomposition
- This helps conserve City funds through a reduction of purchased mulch
- Citizen convenience - Although the citizens are allowed and encouraged to recycle these renewable resources through the County landfill, the City of Frederick is offering this program.
Please note the City drop off locations:
- Max Kehne on 7th Street
- Taskers Chance parking lot on Key Parkway
- Harry Grove Parking Lower Lot
- Husky Park on Highland Street behind the
Fairgrounds
Please make sure trees are free of ornaments, garland, tinsel, lights, or tree stands. Also please remove any plastic bags from around the trees.
If these locations do not work for you, please take your tree to the County landfill located at 9031 Reichs Ford Road.
