THE NICKI GONZALEZ BAND TO BRING A BLEND OF JAZZ,
R&B AND POP TO SUMMER CONCERT SERIES

The Nicki Gonzalez Band will bring its award-winning combination of sibling songwriters and jazz-influenced pop to Baker Park on Sunday, August 7th. Celebrate Frederick will present the free concert as part of this year’s Summer Concert Series. The performance will begin at 7 p.m.

Formed in 1998, the core of the Nicki Gonzalez Band utilizes a singer/songwriter team consisting of siblings Nikki and Ira Gonzalez. Now supporting their sophomore album, Spilt Milk, the Nicki Gonzalez Band will present their original music containing potent jazz and R&B influences infused with a more personal pop appeal. The five-piece pop ensemble has performed at many notable venues, including the 2000 Smithsonian Folk Life Festival and The Kennedy Center’s Millenium Stage, and has received awards from the Washington Area Music Association for Best Pop Group, Latin Vocalist of the Year, and Jazz Vocalist of the Year.

Plan to arrive early to enjoy a free performance on the Baker Park carillon by carillonneur Jeremy Chesman at 6 p.m. Jeremy Chesman is University Carillonneur and an instructor of music at Southwest Missouri State University. In addition to his performances in the U.S., Jeremy has performed in the Netherlands, France, and Portugal, and his performances have been broadcast throughout Japan, the Netherlands, and the U.S.

This year’s 2005 Summer Concert Series is a sub-committee of Celebrate Frederick Inc. and would not be possible without the generous support of the following corporate sponsors. The Gold Sponsors are Bechtel Foundation, Cellular One, Chase Credit Card Services, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank and Weis Markets. The Silver Sponsors are Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Farmers and Mechanics Bank, The Frederick News-Post, and Spectrum Federal Credit Union. The Bronze Sponsors are BB&T, CitiMortgage, and the Frederick Arts Council.

In lieu of admission, the Summer Concert Series committee asks that you bring a canned food item to support the Frederick Community Action Agency Food Bank.
