RAY BIRELY ORCHESTRA TO BRING BIG BAND SWING MUSIC
TO BAKER PARK

The Ray Birely Orchestra will bring the swinging sounds of the 30s and 40s to the Baker Park bandshell on Sunday, August 21st. Celebrate Frederick will present the free concert as part of this year’s Summer Concert Series beginning at 7 p.m.

The Ray Birely Orchestra has been entertaining audiences for over 40 years with it’s “Big Band” sound and large repertoire of standards from the swing era. The Orchestra has played for many prestigious functions, including the Big Band Society of Washington, D.C. and the Frederick Memorial Hospital Annual Snowball Dance. From big band swing to ballads to sambas, the Ray Birely Orchestra prides itself on “music designed with dancing in mind.” Under the direction of Rocky Birely with vocalists Connie Guy and Harry Haines, the orchestra will certainly have the Frederick community up on its feet.

Plan to arrive early to enjoy a free carillon performance by carillonneur Linda Dzuris at 6 p.m. Linda is University Carillonneur and Assistant Professor of Music at Clemson University in South Carolina. She has performed in both The United States and Europe and is an adjudicator and Public Relations Chair for the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America.

This year’s 2005 Summer Concert Series is a sub-committee of Celebrate Frederick Inc. and would not be possible without the generous support of the following corporate sponsors. The Gold Sponsors are Bechtel Foundation, Cellular One, Chase Credit Card Services, Drees Homes, Sandy Spring Bank and Weis Markets. The Silver Sponsors are Adelphia, COMSTAR Federal Credit Union, Farmers and Mechanics Bank, The Frederick News-Post, and Spectrum Federal Credit Union. The Bronze Sponsors are BB&T, CitiMortgage, and Frederick Arts Council.

In lieu of admission, the Summer Concert Series committee asks that you bring a canned food item to support the Frederick Community Action Agency Food Bank. To volunteer, or for more information, call 301-600-CITY (2489) or visit www.CelebrateFrederick.com.
