CITY OF FREDERICK’S FAIR HOUSING
COMMISSION TO HOST BI-LINGUAL
INFORMATION SESSION
Frederick, Md. --- The City of Frederick’s Fair Housing Commission is pleased to announce two bi-lingual Fair Housing Information Session’s planned for later this month. Citizens interested in learning about fair housing issues, as well as first time home ownership, are encouraged to attend these events taking place at the FrederickTowne Mall, Friday, April 15, from 5 - 9 p.m., or Saturday, April 16, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. These sessions are free and the public is encouraged to attend and receive information. Information will be distributed in both English and Spanish.
In 2002 the Mayor and Board of Aldermen repealed Appendix F of the City Code and adopted a new replacement Appendix F- Housing Discrimination Ordinance. In that Ordinance, Section 10 calls for the establishment of a five member Fair Housing Commission. The responsibilities of the Fair Housing Commission are 1) to promote fair housing in the city; and 2) initiate or receive and investigate complaints of housing discrimination. Members include Kay Gant, Freddy Rubio, Virginia Spencer and Nelson Zahler. There is currently one vacancy on this commission.
