STATE FARM INSURANCE PRESENTS CHECK TO THE CITY OF FREDERICK POLICE DEPARTMENT

At 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, in front of City Hall, State Farm Insurance presented a check to City Officials for the purchase of a speed calming device.

State Farm Agents were on hand to make the presentation. These funds will be used to purchase an additional speed display sign for the City to use to enhance its continuing efforts to prevent crashes and deaths.

The Frederick Police Department engages in an active community policing/community government strategy. The Department meets monthly with citizens in 12 neighborhoods covering the entire City to identify their concerns, prioritize them, and devise plans to address them. Inherent in a community policing/community government strategy is ensuring that the Police Department utilize and partner with all stakeholders in addressing the particular concerns. This includes neighbors, police, businesses, all other government agencies (federal, state, local), citizen volunteers, and essentially anyone and any entity who can bring assistance to the issue.

While officers continue to make large numbers of arrests and issue many traffic citations, complaints of speeding continue to be heard around the City. The City has taken a progressive and proactive approach regarding enforcement by purchasing the latest in speed calming technology, exploring other speed calming devices, aggressive enforcement, proposing red light cameras, and implementing a community policing strategy which allows the Police Department to hear directly from citizens about issues of concern.

The City of Frederick recognizes and appreciates the support of State Farm Insurance Companies, and thanks the organization for partnering with the City in its efforts to slow traffic, thereby reducing accidents and preventing injuries and deaths.
